We here at Techie don’t usually write about cars. However, we can’t ignore the buzz surrounding the newest Honda in town, the all-new Civic. So, we became curious on what the latest version has, specifically the features that would arouse our geeky hearts. As it turns out, the newest spawn in the Civic brood has several that we wish are also present in the heaps of metal we own. Anyway, we won’t keep you waiting. Check ’em out in the gallery below.
1.) i-MID display
The all-new Civic is the first in the line to have the 5-inch color LCD intelligent multi-information display or i-MID feature. It displays useful information in terms of audio settings and fuel consumption and is connected to controls found right on the steering wheel.
2. Steering wheel mounted controls
As we've mentioned, the new Civic has additional controls found on its steering wheel for the i-MID and audio settings. We know, this isn't exactly something new in today's cars but still it is something useful, especially for music junkies on the road.
3. Cruise control
This is certainly one of the things that made us go all giddy on the new Civic. Found on the right side of the steering wheel are cruise control functions that enable, er, cruise control. This feature is seldom found on cars like the Civic so its inclusion is certainly a big plus.
4. Two-tier multiplex meter
Although the setup in front of the steering wheel is a bit reminiscent of the older version's, the digital speedometer panel underwent a bit of a redesign. Now, it houses the i-MID and has two rows of lights (one on each side of the digital speedometer) that turn green or blue, depending on how efficiently the car is consuming its fuel.
5. Built-in hands-free wireless Bluetooth phone function
You can hook up your mobile phone via Bluetooth (integrated in the steering wheel) to the new Civic's system for hands-free voice calls. While this is also not something new, it's still a very nifty addition to the package since taking calls the old-fashioned way while driving can be tiring, not to mention dangerous.
And last but definitely not the least (and perhaps the most noteworthy) is represented by that little round green button. Pressing it will activate the Civic's ECON mode (we just made that term up) which affects the car's fuel economy in certain ways for the better and indicates if you're driving efficiently via the two rows of light found on the digital speedometer panel. It's a feature that, especially for those who want to save up (like the majority of us), is very important in terms helping you save more and travel farther for every liter of fuel.
